Brooklyn, New York's most populated
borough has been a hotbed of art and cultural activity for decades. But
it's the art of fashion that's key for the success of the
Brooklyn Community Housing and Service's fifth annual Fashion on Fulton & Friends event. The (BCHS) is committed to ending homelessness in
Brooklyn. And with the help of Brooklyn's independent fashion
designers, the BCHS is making strides to end homelessness for young
mothers and chronically homeless people who struggle with mental
illness, and low-income. "It's been a very busy and exciting year for
the agency, and we are about to enter a period of significant growth",
claims Executive Director Jeff Nemetsky. "We launched a successful new
program where we now provide specialized services for ex-offenders
returning to the community and geriatric services for our older
residents. We are planning a groundbreaking new program which, when
implemented, should be one of the largest homelessness prevention
initiatives in the country; serving over 1,000
people each year." BCHS has helped thousands who were in crisis achieve
independence during the last 27 years, and they are ready to help
thousands more; until the day that homelessness no longer exist. Until
the day our communities are as socially rich, and as economically
vital, as possible.
