Get ready to go glamourous with polyester? The traditional fashion houses of Europe would've scoffed at the idea of using plastic fabric on couture designs. Largely regarded as a cheap fabric that's rather uncomfortable for sensitive skin, plastic fashions are experiencing a resurgence. Fashion Designer and contemporary artist Saureen Desai debuted her first collection entitled “Plastiq World” during New York Fashion Week.
After receiving degrees in Finance and Marketing with further studies in Global Business, Ms. Desai went on to pursue professional training in the field of plastic raw materials. A commitment to enhance the sustainability of plastic products led her to think outside the box and create the “Se Sens Serene Eco Fashion” product line. Ms. Desai has combined her knowledge of plastics with personal style and South East Asian cultural flare to create a niche in fashion. Ms. Desai uses "Plastiq", a term she coined to describe the various grades of high-end plastics (monomers and polymers) in the construction of highly innovative and chic fashion designs.
The invent of high grade micro-fibers are what gives polyester the feel of silk; and now polyesters are rapidly becoming the choice of fabrics. Design, fashion, and eco-friendly lifestyle have always been part of Ms. Desai's life. Her desire to promote sustainable an eco-lifestyle fashion product line led her to develop “Plastiq”, products for enhanced sustainability. “Plastics are what make this world possible," says the Designer. "And in order for us to preserve Mother Earth we must make every effort to make plastics even more possible and sustainable than they are today."
The Se Sens Serene collection is sponsored by Intercontinental Export and Imports. A supplier of end to end eco-friendly recycling solutions for manufactured products. This relationship with Intercontinental enables Ms. Desai to deal with various types of off-grade plastic products from polymer producers, textile producers, and the automotive industry among others, and also allows her to travel throughout the world to meet with various customers who use an assortment of plastic products for various applications. “Plastics have been in my blood since I was a child. It defines me. It's who I am… I am Plastiq,” states Ms. Desai. |
